
Project Name: Kids HealthNet
Relationship to QCHI: QCHI Affiliate Project
Project Description: Kids HealthNet promotes awareness and enrollment in the state funded health insurance programs for children (Illinois’ All Kids and Iowa’s hawk-i).
Target Audience: Families who do not have or cannot afford health insurance at their place of work but do not meet the guidelines for Medicaid.
Start Date/Current Status: The project workgroup was formed in 1999 and the awareness campaign first launched in March 2000. A second awareness campaign was launched in December 2002. Outreach workers are on staff at Community Health Care, Inc.
Project Goals and Objectives:
- Make 100% of the identified or estimated number of eligible families aware of the coverage available under the state funded health insurance programs for children
- Assist 100% of the parents who indicate interest in the programs with completing and submitting applications to the insurance programs
Project Performance/ Accomplishments:
- Contacted nearly 100% of the eligible families in the QCA; an estimated 60% of the eligible children are enrolled
- Lauded by former Iowa Governor Vilsack and former Vice-President Al Gore
